I was introduced to this wonderful community by Don/Dangling back in early 2006 and later joined NCKA and my first NCKA event was at Mendo lake.  I still remember clearly it's a storm trooper weekend but I made many great friends and had a great time.  This is the only community that I belong to on the web and hope to be here for years to come.

First pm was from Kiel welcoming me in 2007 since we were both local from Vallejo. Then met Sonny since he lived close by in Benicia. Fishing got really good in the early days for me because both these guys were unemployed and recession was about to kick in and they could fish anytime I can. Then they got jobs again😩
Thanks to the 2004-2005 guys that set the foundation for us later guys.

Who was it that caught a nice salmon right in the cove at Fort Ross on 4th of July in 06'? And I mean right in the damn cove, within casting distance of me from the rocks.
I looked at my Dad and said "I'm getting one of those".
Whomever it was gave us a ride up the hill in his van. He was over the moon naturally.

It took a couple years, but I did get a kayak. Met Sean White at some REI gig at Spring Lake. Took some safety/fishing classes that he was teaching (awesome BTW) where I met Piski and a few others and was introduced to NCKA.
The 1st Albion was my 1st hookup. Sarah made me go because I'm shy AF, and she didn't want me fishing in the ocean by myself any longer.
I often thank her for making me do that. Aaron I think could sense my shyness and introduced me around. I met a bunch of the dudes there that weekend that I still hang with today.
If I remember right, Kiel won, Craig was was bent  :smt044, there was deep fried cheesecake and red velvet cake to die for, and every kind of amazing grub I could imagine. It was pure comedy, and I was sold.
I've met some of my best friends here.

I was a little late to the game and finally signed up in Jan, '08 after lurking for a while.
Mooch made a point to welcome newbs and offered to lend me a kayak.
Then met the other OGs and really got mixed up in it. Never recovered!

I still check in once in awhile.  Having moved to Portland back in 2007, I tend to spend most of my time on NWKA these days.  The occasional fish ID post usually gets me back here in a hurry.

What is NCKA again? I haven't had a fishing license in probably 10 years.  And you know what, my life is SAD.  I've been working so hard trying to save the little fishies in the Delta, but I have had not impact.  Should have just kept fishing. Last year I gave up and took that "cushy" government job and stepped into a whole new pile of Sh%t.  Maybe someday I will get back to kayak fishing.  But I certainly miss many of my OG friends I made during my kayak fishing days.  Until COVID is over, will hope to see you on the water.

What ever happened to Ernie? How about Brenden? I miss those young and free days. Married w/ 4 kids kills the time for fishing.

Sean/blondstallion told me about the site in 2005.  Still have the OK P-15 I bought in 2005. Lurked for a year before signing on in 2006.  First hook-up met Mooch and he warmly welcomed me to the crew by putting on his magic apron and offering me a cookie - the first of fun times from then on, along with so many great adventures and great friends.

Hadn't been OTW since 2016 but last week went to our 37th annual birthday gathering of friends in Cazadero to celebrate 3 birthdays, one friend turning 60. Spent a morning on Tomales and graced with a halibut that provided a nice dinner for the group.  Grateful for the friends and adventures from NCKA!

Being apart from this great group of people makes me sad. At least I got to spend a few years with you and learn a lot about this sport from legends.
If I did stay, the way y'all cook at events, I'd be a fat little Phlip.  :smt003
I do miss the events you all put on, the food and fellowship. Greatest bunch of guys on the water!!!!

Now in Texas involved heavily with HOW, Thanks Don (Danglin) for letting become part of that. Keeps me busy and lets me pass along the legacy of kayak fishing; the addiction!!!
