Great event.  I was a first timer. Sorry to hear the event as I experienced it is going to sunset. Thanks Vwool and Teresa for the dedication to putting this on for 10 years.

Ditto the above comment. It was my first time attending yesterday and I'm kicking myself for not going in the past, especially given the news about next year. Had a great time meeting everyone and the potluck was amazing. The pig and the tamales, so good. Whoever brought that carrot cake ... holy cow, my mind was blown ! A huge thank you to Vic and family for all of your time, effort, and dedication to putting on a fantastic event. Can't wait for next year !

Next year (10 years) will be the last year of an organized event with raffle and prizes. Looking at doing a crab and chill after that.

Thank you so much to Victor and Narisa for all the work and long hours they put in to organize and produce the event. I loved the kayak raffle method you used, it built it up really well and got those last ten folks really excited!

Kudos!

Thanks Vwool for putting on a great event!

First timer at crabfest, missed the weigh in (#n00blife), lost a gopro, and had a blast!  The potluck spread was unreal, so much good food.  We held it down in the Miwok campground with Crayfish.  Thankfully the weather wasn't as bad as predicted, and it turned into a memorable weekend in Bodega.  I'll probably still put a video together with the gopro body cam that did survive.  In the meantime, probably see y'all around Half Moon Bay or Bodega Bay whenever Jon (sighko1) and I make it back out on some 'yaks  :smt004

Looking forward to Crabfest 2021!!!

If you're only staying F-Su, sites will be available starting Wednesday. I see that HoboCamp is already reserved.  :smt044

Generators at Doran Beach - Update!

Hi everyone,
Like many of you, I was incredibly frustrated to learn that we could only use our generators from 8am to 8pm while camping at Doran this past weekend. The camp hosts came around and knocked at our door, saying it had been changed about 6 months ago. We had planned on running our generator to charge our equipment from 8-10pm since we were gone all day!

When we checked-out of the camp grounds, the rangers/staff at the front booth were incredibly sympathetic and encouraged us to contact the Regional Parks office. They told us that others had complained (not sure how many) about the generators going until 10pm, so the county changed it.

The staff recommended that we share the contact info with everyone we know, and to get as many people as possible to contact the parks office! We may actually get them to change their generator hours if there is enough polite and professional feedback about the hours. We are such a large forum, we could easily get thousands of calls/emails to them.

Personally, I think we should be allowed to run generators from 7am to 10pm - this allows us time to catch-up on some work, charge equipment, and cook our crab!

Please consider contacting the Sonoma County Regional Parks, and let them know that as a long-time camper at Doran, you would like to see them change the generator hours and restore them to the 7am-10pm time frame. Let them know how it impacts you and your use of the camping facilities.

Contact them by email (which is probably best):

Well, I missed out on a jetty camp spot for next year.  I've gone all but the first year.  Maybe someone will cancel.
Maybe I'll just go for the day.  We'll see.
In the meantime, thanks to Victor and his lovely family for hosting all these years.
Cheers!
