Hi I’m Joe. I grew up fishing around Sacramento and most of NorCal. Stopped for a whille until my son came along. He’s 8 now and we have been going fishing at least once a month since he was 4. We mainly fish for trout. We were at comanche a few weeks ago and he saw someone in a kayak catch a huge rainbow. Since then he’s been suggesting we get a kayak.

I joined to seek advise about what kayak we should get and good places I can take him. I heard about this forum on one of the Head Waters videos. I plan to go to their shop this weekend to check out their big sale.

Welcome to the group.

You might give Rancho Seco a try.

I lived in EG and recently moved to Rancho. There are a ton of lakes you can take him to and with a kayak it gives you more water to fish. Lake Natoma is a great one since gas motors arnt allowed and its really close to home. Are you looking into getting a tandem a pair of singles?

I haven’t been to lake natoma for years. But that’s a great idea. I will take him to rancho seco too.

I was thinking about getting a native titan 13.5. I’ve read that you can add an extra seat. Then I can take it out by myself sometimes too. I think he’s probably too young for his own kayak. I want to take a class and have him take a class before I decide. It would be cool if we could each get a small kayak.

The guys at headwaters can deffently help you out! Test them all out and see what's best for you. Also talk to the guys at California Canoe and Kayak out in Rancho Cordova because they have some different brands and styles.

My son and I have had some great adventures on lake Natoma. He is serving in the Navy now. But maybe we could hook up some time.
