... When bounceballing, I tie a 50# line and a 12# line together for my weight dropper on the three-way..  If the bounce ball (Actually a torpedoe weight) gets snagged, and I get to the direct pressure situation, the 12# will snap easily. Then, I've only lost my weight  and not the whole rig. (I use 50# for that dropper because the areas I bounce ball for halibut often have little rocks and shale outcrops, The line gets abraded. so the 50# goes on the bottom connected to the weight.  12# goes on top of that dropper connected to the swivel)

And thats all I know.

That's pretty darn clever.

i don't know about you guys, but getting seasick and going in after 3 hours significantly cuts back on lost gear.

I usually fish a big swimbait on the bottom with a shrimp fly above it.

I find they snag way less than irons because an iron has the hook on the bottom.

I will keep a close eye on my fish finder and when drifting the right way can anticipate big rocks/change in depth and reel up so I don't get snagged.

Haven't lost a swimbait in a long time doing this.

Do like we used to during shore fishing in rocky areas.  Spark plug for weight on the bottom and a hook with bait a foot or so up the line.  I know they do not have as many old spark plugs these days with 100k mile tuneups.  But there are similar cheap weights.  I use swim baits a lot, and they rarely snag, and jigs with a lighter wire hook will straighten out the hook with heavy pull.  Just have your drag less than that pull, and the fish will not straighten the hook.  I also do not use 50# straight braid, but a lighter top shot in the kayak.  I want to either get the jig back or lose the jig, not go for a swim.

Re-bar for weights works wonders. Cuts fairly easy with a hacksaw. Loop and twist wire to attach line to. 4 to 8 oz sections for offshore weight.

Exactly! 40# is my kayak limit. I have been able to break off many times when all else fails, but usually its an okay break, and I'm not nearly launching myself off the boat when it does break.

I make my own lead with lead that I find over here in Monterey when I clean up the buoys next to the wharf. I switch out any treble hooks with single hooks and make my own lures. I also like to use 50 to 60# braid so I tend to be able to muscle it loose
