Hey guys,

So i need some advice to fish for ocean stripers from a kayak.  This isn't my field of expertise and i would like to become more educated on this fish, in the ocean. I'm generally ok with them in the delta, lakes and even bay.

I think ocean stripers taste completely different. I hooked a nice 10 lb+ striper in the ocean, by chance, this past week before it broke my hook. It fought like a salmon and had the pull of an apex predator.

I use to fish for them on the surf line at Capitola and Santa Cruz before the area became shark infested.
Any body got advice for this chovy? Much appreciated -- TLA

He wants to get them from a kayak.  :smt005 andrew j fish on the beaches along the coast of SMC. I think its tough fishing them from a kayak since they travel on surf line.

Yeah that is the trick there. I'm sure i can hammer them out fishing from land. I think i got a good general idea of how to do it. Julian, no doubt got ocean stripers dialed in. Nothing but praise to him for that.

I think its fishing along the surf line at day break while they cruise the breakers. Just curious if anyone got advice on this. Thanks -- TLA

all i got is.....
FIRST!......they have to be there,,,,,then you have to be on the other side (outside) of the surf line. Tough place to be at. In between the surfers and they're "hey, this is my/our surf" and the incoming swell. I did it twice at LM and it paid off, but only when our lures got into the crashing surf line. No bites outside whatsoever. Casting your lures close to a bunch of KOOKS will get you into arguments and bad vibes.

We tossed swimbaits at them and it worked, but it was alot of work, positioning ourselves after a set would roll through,,,,,and the looks we got could kill.

BEST TIME EVER!!!    :smt005

Sounds like a fun time! Long rod and long casts to safely cast into the surf from the wrong side?

Craig was telling me about that year.. He said it was something else... I checked the AOTY striper history and there were some GINORMOUS fish entered in 2009... One guy got a 44 incher and like 41 in the same day.. un-f***ing-real! If you end up going on a weekend, let me know! Gotta get in on at least one scss trip this year!
