I was at ARW today pretty far offshore and two paddle boarders cruzed by both wearing shorts, t-shirts, no pfd, and with a dog. Amazing

At least these two had PFD's on. even if they didn't have wetsuit/drysuits or know how to get back in their kayaks out in the water

I wonder what happened to their kayaks.
Sometimes I think I should leash myself to my kayak to avoid getting separated when in fast moving water like near the mouth of tomales bay.

That seems to be pretty much standard practice for SUPs...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Most use ankle leash while on SUPs. I would feel weird wearing a pfd paddling a SUP. I haven't seen any venturing out too far like kayakers do.

Not sure I would say most use ankle leases.  IME, most do NOT.

I'm sure you guys are right and I only assumed most would because it's makes a lot of sense when not wearing a pfd.

It's coincidental timing that I was having a conversation with a friend this weekend, whose son fell off a SUP less than 100 yards from shore last year.  No leash.  SUP got away from him in the wind.  Good thing his dog swam out to him and dragged him by the top of the back of his PFD back to shore.  Good doggy!
