Thinking about getting a new PFD to replace my Stohlquist, and read lots of good things about the NRS Chinook. Any difference between the "Chinook" and the "Chinook OS"? One extra pocket and $20 more is all that I can see...

I would go with the cheaper one between the two. $20 is a lot considering they are very similar.  :smt006

I think the Chinook is a nice PFD, I owned one. One thing I don't like much about the chinook are the pockets.

Then I got this http://www.stohlquist.com/life-jackets/fishing-pfds/keeper.html
This is a nicer overall PFD. The back foam is soft like memory foam.
It even has hand warmer pocket. I use that a lot.

The OS(off shore) was designed for the salt angler. One deference is a pocket just for a radio. Not sure of the other differences. I just received a new OS in the mail from Outdoor Play at 20% off. Code "MAX20".

I liked the original, and it is available if you are interested.

The new OS does look nice with the radio pocket. Might have to check it out.

I got the NRS chinook 20% off as stated above. If the VHF pocket is a deal breaker, consider using the VHF clip and attach the VHF it to the shoulder strap. That's what I did. Its out of the way and still accessible if needed.

Thanks for all of the info.

That Stohlquist Keeper looks sweet. I've got the Stohlquist Fisherman now, and the thing I don't like is the padding on the back. Looks like that aspect is much nicer on the Keeper...

Anyone have experience with the Cabela's Deluxe Thin-Back PFD? Looks to be mostly the same as the Stohlquist Keeper, and it's only $89.99 instead of $149.99.

I do I do.

I bought one and returned. The memory foam effect was not there. It uses a 2nd tier foam.
I really think Stohlquist make it exclusively for Cabela for lower cost. It's a decent PFD for the price. I would rate the overall craftmanship is lower than the Chinook and Keeper.

Thanks Chet, that was the insight I was looking for!
