hey guys....anyone know or recommend any structural engineer around Eldorado Hills?

this is for a residential home. Suspect that its something foundation since there are cracks in the walls. slopping down 6 inch. Probably dry rot? not sure.

I'm asking for a friend

If you want to rule out the foundation crawl under the house with a long level or laser level and check the foundation for level.

You should be able to put a level on the weep screed, right where stucco stops. Do a little investigation before you call an engineer out. You may be able save yourself a lot of money. You just get a long piece of string and go corner to corner of house, then put a level on string. do this to the side you suspect and each wall connecting to this wall.

I can recommend  Burne Engineering.  I've used them for a couple projects of mine and it costs nothing to get a consult.  They are located in El Dorado Hills as well.

The slope you describe doesn't necessarily indicate "dry rot", like Mike said, pictures would help, lots of people here are in the trades. The cracks - inside, outside or both? What type of exterior finish material?

I'd do a bit more research and troubleshooting before bringing in an engineer. If you do need one, Jerry's referral is good and there.

Maybe a good home inspector.  My son had one for a house in Roseville he recently bought.  The guy found a water leak from the upstairs master shower by pulling off the kitchen ceiling light below and finding some water stains.  When asked how he found it, knew to look there, he said he saw in the garage ceiling a spot that had been painted over as if hiding something, threw a laser level light on it and it pitched to the kitchen.  Pulled the light fixture off and saw water stains.
One thing about home damage is; you not only got to identify what is wrong, but how it got that way in the first place.  Fixing the damage only to have it come back isn't gonna do any good.
Hope your friend gets a good inspection and engineer's opinion on what's up.

If it helps at all, I have a high dollar laser level and a transit.  If he just wants to shoot some elevations, mark some reference points on the structure, I could probably help.  I'm in El Dorado Hills 2 or 3 times a week to visit my dad who lives there.

awesome for all the suggestion. I forward the information to the person. I guess home owner insurance is going to cover the cost of it hopefully. The house is pretty old, 1923 so it needs some work on it. Thanks again guys.  :smt006
