What did the butt bite on?

It bit that stupid pink bucktail that is in the Greenlings mouth. I bought a bunch of them on sale a season or two ago and it’s been rattling around the bottom of my tackle box. I figured I should use it and maybe if I lost it I wouldn’t have to carry it around anymore. Well now I need to go buy more because all of my fish came on it!

And who knew there were halibut there! I was cruising along looking for structure when I saw a big bait ball on my screen. It was flat with no structure but I figured that if bait was around fish might be too! Drop to the bottom jig a few times and pull a halibut up. I was so confused, just thinking I know what this feels like but there is no way that is what it is!
i actually have a bunch of those, spros right?how heavy are you using?maybe i can make you a killer deal as i have not been able to get around to usin ng them
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Wow, what a great day!
How many feet of water were you in?
I gotta get a fishfinder.

I went in at Caspar beach. Set a couple of crab rings and paddled out to the north point. Fished the back side of the rocks for about an hour, caught nothing but blacks! Kept three nice ones and headed back in. Four big Dungies in one ring! Pretty good day for me, though I would have liked a Ling.

Full report to come later....
Dang nice haul.  Any word on crabbing up there.  Where is a good place for Kayak crabbing and rock fishing at same spot.  We hit Albion on the opener and the fishing is always good and the crabbing was decent but it drops off on crab right away.

Yeah Albion gets a lot of fishing pressure. I think there's less powerboat traffic at Caspar or Mendocino. Caspar is a pretty small inlet so it could get crabbed-out before too long. Mendocino Bay is much larger, trickier to get into though. Both offer excellent prospects for rockfish around the points.
Navarro is another possibility, but I need more experience before tackling that shore break.

Nice work! That's one big vermilion. Did you have anything on the pink bucktail?

I don’t know anything about crabbing in that area, but next time I get out I want to bring a trap and see what I can find. I found some flat sandy bottom so I don’t see why crabs won’t be there.

I was mostly fishing around 100fow where a reef comes up to the highest of around 60fow. I went as shallow as 30 and caught a bunch of littles but the best bite seemed to be around 100.

Yes the pink bucktail was very productive. Most of my fish came on it. Tipped with a curly tail grub and coated in anchovy oil.

Wow! What a day! Congrats on that big verm! Halibut is the best rockfish by-catch!
