The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Definitely, as long as the weather cooperates. I was hoping to go out at Doran at midnight, but I was too late to score a campsite. How much of a zoo do you think it will be at 7am? If it's too crazy maybe another spot would be better.

I'll be at Bodega, launching from the Campbell Cove.

Can you launch at Campbell Cove anytime or does it open at 7 like Doran? How is the boat traffic going out the inlet?

You could launch there just about anytime... if the gates closed which it never usually is... park outside and roll it to the beach.

Thanks I'll have to give it a try sometime. I've always been annoyed that you can't launch from Doran day use until 7--ish, especially in the spring.

Boat traffic is crazy.  I wouldn't advise trying to go out thru the gates during peak time (4am-2pm) for opening day.

Another good option is Muir Beach... No boat traffic there, and I’ve had good luck in as little as 10 FOW right in the cove. :)

Thanks for the tip. Is it open at sunrise? I read that Muir woods etc. open at 8 and I see a gate on Google maps...

The gate usually opens around 7:30 or 8. So not sunrise, but plenty early for crabbing. I don’t think the crabs really care what time it is.
