So there we were another typical Friday evening of dinner out with the family which was soon followed by movie night with the boys.

During dinner at "La Catalana" I peered out the window and across the street and saw a security robot doing it's rounds. This was not the first time seeing this thing since we've eaten at this restaurant several times.

When my wife got up to use the bathroom I started plotting our Robocop heist (father of the year for sure  :smt005).
My kids as always were amused by my absurd thinking all in jest of course.

Talks about putting it in the trunk of the car and speeding off,
Robo tipping and thoughts of attaching a 10 foot piece of toilet paper to it  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 ran through my head.

So, when my wife made the normal u turn in front of the new fancy building I shouted "pull over!" and to her astonishment me and the boys jumped out of the car.

"Where are you going???" she asked

"To kidnap a robot!" I replied  :smt003

As we creeped up to it we were blurting out silly things like what if....we got zapped by a ray gun??, sprayed by a poisonous cloud of gas?? or octopus inked??  :smt005

It stopped as soon as we got a few feet from it. The silly notion of the heist quickly turned into "selfie time"  :smt001

At first that hunk of shiny metal wasn't having it and it was a moving target. Seeing that we were persistent it finally gave in and let us take a couple pics.

We thanked it and laughed all the way back to the car.

My wife patiently waited as she watched shaking her head and called us a bunch of dorks as we got back into the car.

It was a perfect way to end the meal and yes I had paella again  :smt001

If you're in the area check them out there is at least two of them that patrol the building .....pretty cool  :smt004

Nice selfies.

And thanks for putting La Catalana on the radar -- been looking for a reasonably priced spanish (especially Catalan) place for a while now, and this looks like it fits the bill. Also decently close to alviso slough where I paddle occasionally with some friends.

Yikes!

The SGR-1 is an armed guard robot that can either be column-mounted or attached to a set of tank tracks. It's currently being used to patrol the border between North and South Korea. It comes equipped with a 5.56mm belt-fed machine gun and CCTV / thermal imaging cameras in two independently pivoting groups (secondary camera is used to seek out additional targets)
