2018 Fanatic Stylemaster pure 10' x 30"
« on: September 23, 2018, 11:44:27 PM »
80kg 5'5" beginner to intermediate and I can't do cut back yet ;)

its a nice the board to look at and you can feel the quality on this board and its tough after a few knocks with without a scratche.

the rails are thin and it shows once your on any wave combine with the v tail and the glide is quick and responsive for a long and wide board.

I think its more high performance long board. I struggled to hang-ten at the nose because its so quick ;)

My 10' Stylemaster is my go to board now.

I think you are absoluelty right, this board is a performance longboard and not a traditional noserider.  Love my JL Black and Blue Machine for noseriding but the Stylemaster is much more versitile and a better fit for my local beach break conditions.

For mush, the short boards with wide tail (usually) have a design to move quickly and have good action in small fat waves. Simmons, Tomo, Shroom, Super Frank, Skate, ...

With this one, which does everything, it must give up something to these others. For example, the others have less swing weight when on the tail, they do not require walking and walking delays, they are particularly fast, they have tails designed for speed with less wave steepness, etc.

Any others?

Why get the 10 footer?

10 footer should paddle straighter and faster making it possible to batch waves earlier or further off peak?
10 footer might be more stable?
10 footer might handle bigger and steeper waves as well?
Narrower tail might make better turns in the pocket?
Moving on the board might allow one to change its characteristics for a wider variety of situations on a wave.

Any others? Which are most important for you?

A little easier in chop.
Catches more waves.
And everything you mentioned. Mostly doesn't make a hard fast bottom turn. So no quick top to bottom, but speed for sure on the big and little stuff.
My 10' x 29" Coreban Icon pure is a longboardish performer with a swallow tail and quad set up. The PVC construction is bullet proof. I've had it for 3 years now, and never done a repair. It's my daily go to board. It looks almost exactly like the 10' 'style master', just a slightly different tail and fin setup.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

The Icon was my daily driver before the Stylemaster.  They are both performance longboards as opposed to nose riders.  The Stylemaster is much more thinned out, about 30 liters less and does not have that pronounced kick in the nose.  I do miss the ability to run quads.

Sweet JEG, the Stylemaster looks like a nice board.

There is a huge list of reasons to have a longboard shape in your quiver
or as your only board
Longboards will handle pretty much any wave and condition
Stable and easy to paddle
carry speed in almost flat waves.

My favorite aspect of longboard shapes is the style they add to your surfing.
To ride a longboard correctly, you must master the art of walking a board
and
the subtle foot pressures that will magically snap a big board around.

"Longboarding" is as much art form, as it is surfing.

At 245 lbs, I don't think I could spare 30 liters :)

Yes, at 210, the Stylemaster is even under water for me TD.

Congrats JEG!

I put some RS Pro (the 5' extreme length) on the rails which has worked out really well.  Also applied the RS hex traction on the nose.  I actuaally like wax or full pad a little better, but the hex has been a great compromise.

I think you will like the ride.

On all my surf SUPs, I use a light coat of Rust-oleum anti-slip spray. The Krylon version is about the same. It has just enough grip to nose ride or just plant a foot forward on takeoff. It's not as rough as Monster Grip, and it's only a fraction of the cost. It's actually more of a texture than a grit. It's been on my Naish Nalu for almost eight years. Still looks like new.
