I couldn’t have asked for nicer conditions. Not windy, the drift was slight and the day got sunny and warmed up in time for a fantastic potluck. Most of the time I’ve fished at Ocean Cove it has been for Simply Fishing so I haven’t had a chance to explore the area with a fish finder. Bryan, Adrian and I tried to find a good spot based on the maps we’d looked at the night before. All we found were little fish. The copper colored jig worked the best for me. I caught my first ocean salmon with it. I hooked up in 100 fow in front of Stillwater Cove. Then my line started going sideways and I could tell it was coming to the surface. I’ve never had a rockfish head for the surface so I was thinking maybe a salmon. Since I can’t convince anyone that the regs say it’s legal to keep since I wasn’t fishing for salmon, I released it. I’m going to have to give salmon fishing a try next year. I didn’t get any lings so I released all the fish I caught. Everybody seemed to have a great time at the potluck, and from the sound of it quite a few people were having a great time at the after party also. I was lucky enough to win the mushroom trip with Dylan. I’m looking forward to that. Thanks to Dylan and all the sponsors for supporting the cause. Also thanks to Ruben and family and the volunteers that put on another fantastic event.  :smt006

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Yes, it never occurred to me that I might catch a salmon that way.
