So, what's everyone's thoughts/opinions on a GoPro setup for a complete videographer neophyte who doesn't necessarily want go "all in" right off the bat just in case it doesn't go too well? Now when talking about a "setup", I'm talking not only camera, but the best/safest ways to attach it to self when foiling, so as not to injure myself primarily, and/or camera, board, or foil secondarily.

Paddle mount is probably the best pov to capture the action. Nose mount facing back is probably the least popular. Creek "Kook Cap Mount" will be the easiest to operate.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Alright, having now been inspired by so many of the accomplished video journalists here, I'm now reconsidering my thoughts on getting, and using a GoPro to share just a little more of the action going on out in the water (even if I don't video myself... ;) :D).

Folks here on the forum are talking about wanting to see more pics, and vids....so here's your chance to possibly get one more out in the water if the price is right, and the attachment contraptions aren't too complicated.  :)

Cool... I look forward to your videos!

I just bought a Sessions5 for $199

One big button on top, ON OFF
It beeps, so you know what it's doing

Here's my video of the "Kook Hat Cam"
Shows how simple it is to make and use.

It has NEVER fallen off, even when OH waves lid smack me.

Thanks 'cook' and 'creek' for the info. So is the consensus the "gettin' in" costs are about $325-$350 for camera, and necessary paddle and/or hat bill accessories for hands-free filming?  :-\
Me: 6'1"/185...(2) 5'1" Kings Foil/Wing Boards...7'10 Kings DW Board...9'6" Bob Pearson "Laird Noserider"...14' Lahui Kai "Manta"...8'0" WaveStorm if/when the proning urges still hit.

Hero4 Silver- I've had mine for almost four years. Love it for the lcd touch screen.

But a Session5 is WAY smaller and alot easier to use w/only one button. Also swing weight is better than the Hero4.
I could only find the original Session in LA. It was fun looking up where you're at and browsing GPs for you. Vids off GoPros are cool.

This is one of the best paddle cam shots I ever got. Been a while since I mounted up for a paddle shoot. You can get some amazing povs w/it.

Wow, thanks "cook" for looking, much appreciated. Actually I'm in So. Orange County (last city south, right at the SDCo line as a matter of fact :) ), and did find a couple of these....

https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/pho/d/sealed-go-pro-hero-5-action/6670028795.html

...but always a little leery about buying electronics used, especially things like this I know so little about. That, "If it's too good to be true...it probably is" worries me in some of these CL ads, and the prices they list for what they're supposedly showing/selling.  ???

But dang, that is a great shot from the "green room", and even better with the cool "whatever you call it" effect that you did to it to make it look like a painting.  :D

EDIT: Shoot, I keep looking at that "painting", and now I want one just to do things like that.  ;D

Sano.... you do not need the best camera, since most vids over 720 P cannot be viewed online by phones or tablets.

Plus, super high resolution gobbles up computer storage quickly.

My new Sessions5 cost $199 new... and is much smaller than the Hero5 black... and easier to use IMO.
I went with the Sessions because I didn't want the "impact" of the bigger Hero5 during a wipeout.
However, if only shooting flat-water paddling, the size is less important.

Best slowmo is shot at 720 in superview at 120 fps.

I shoot at 1080P in Superview
When I upload to youtube it ends up viewable by all devices.

lol...used electronics are a gamble for sure....BUT, it's so cool when you score good used gear. I'm really lucky in that dept in that I have been quite fortunate scoring used cameras and RECing/music equip. Also back in the day I scored a coupla MP3 players used. My drill is to first check Craig's, then try eBay, thirdly go to Amazon, and finally third party sellers and manufacturers.

Shoot, I keep looking at that "painting", and now I want one just to do things like that.
Not a big deal. It's a free app called Prisma available to anyone w/an Android or iPhone device.

Had both GoPro 5 and 6. Until I lost my 5 on the downwinder :) In terms of video quality there is no difference between two. Great video/images. Why I am sticking with 6 is that amazing electronic image stabilization. 6 almost looks like you are using a gimbal. And the RAW photo capability is just awesome on those cams.
Here is a shot from last night in Naples FL

Jacked up Jiminy! These are simply amazing pics and would look great framed up and displayed. The second one with you (or someone else) on a board really pops out.. Getting beautiful images like this and some quality video would make the 6 a worthy investment. I'm just not that tech savvy but have been wanting to get a go pro for a long time now.

As far as comments go about taking pics and video of yourself? All for it on this site. Maybe a little bit of ego is involved but I'm interested in photography and sharing adventures, and definitely enjoy looking at everyone else's photos and videos on here. Loved Tall Dudes video post the other day, and these are some of the nicest pics I have ever seen on the zone and they look professional. A pick me up when the sun is blocked from all of the smoke in the interior of BC with the vivid imagery and has given me a bit of motivation to post something up myself later today.
