The how and why of an annual camping trip has changed, but a June trip by Bloomington middle school students marked the 50th anniversary of a program that has been providing an “up north” experience to suburban middle and high school students.

Todd Anderson, an Oak Grove Middle School social studies teacher, wasn’t part of the program when it was founded 50 years ago, but he coordinates its modern-day rendition and knows a thing or two about its history, as his father Richard was part of the trio that founded Operation Adventure.
