Evansville concert honors late drummer

Victor Facio died the night before he was to join Anthony and Jim Miltich on stage at the Evansville Art Center in 2016.

Now, the Miltich brothers are returning to the Evansville Art Center to play a tribute concert for Facio, a Fargo percussionist who often played with them. Their free concert is set for 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 6.

Jim Miltich sings and plays guitar and harmonica, while songwriter Anthony Miltich sings and plays guitar.

The center will provide beverages and encourages concert-goers to bring a treat to share. It will accept donations.

Veterans coffee talk

The Veterans Administration will hold an informal coffee talk to answer questions veterans have about VA health care. It will take place from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, at the Max J. Beilke VA Clinic, 515 22nd Ave. E., Alexandria.

Veterans who are not enrolled, veterans who are new to the VA health system and enrolled veterans who want to learn more about the system are encouraged to attend. Those who wish to can also enroll that day.

55-plus driver improvement program

Drivers age 55 and up can brush up on their skills in July when the Minnesota Highway Safety Center offers its four-hour 55-plus driver improvement course in Alexandria.

The course is from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, July 13, at Grand Arbor Senior Residence, 4403 Pioneer Road SE.

Instructors provide the latest information about driver safety, new laws, and vehicle technology. The course costs $22. It is open to the public; pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, visit www.mnsafetycenter.org or call 888-234-1294.
Those age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law.

Selective TV to meet

Selective TV, a non-profit, viewer-supported organization that delivers nearly 50 TV channels to Douglas County and the surrounding area, will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, July 9, at the Ida Township Hall at 4700 County Road 6 NW.

This year's agenda includes a membership update, information on an upcoming channel relocation, and board elections. Selective TV's annual meeting is open to current members and anyone interested in the future of over-the-air antenna television in the Alexandria area.

Matt Kjelland Memorial Walk/Run

A fundraiser in memory of an Alexandria native who died in 2016 is planned for Saturday, Sept. 15, at Alexandria City Park.

While an Alexandria High School student, Matt Kjelland played on the football, basketball, cross country, track and baseball teams. He earned a degree in exercise science and community health from Moorhead State University.

The 5K walk/run plus a one-mile fun walk and a kid's fun run will raise money for scholarships, school food shelf programs, Lyme disease support groups and suicide prevention. It will include an awards ceremony and social hour.

Dance in Glenwood

The Lakeside Dance Club will hold a dance for people of all ages and abilities from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at the Lakeside Ballroom in Glenwood. The Velvet Brass Band will play a wide range of tunes from big band swing, light jazz, soft rock, Latin, classic rock, Dixieland and old-time. Basic dance lessons offered at 2 p.m. are included with admission.
