I was told by a ranger today that this afternoon at The Fort a kayak angler had severed a major artery in his leg. The EMS there felt it required a tourniquet and an airlift to hospital.  No idea if he survived. Hope it’s nobody we know.

The unidentified man severely cut a lower leg and was bleeding heavily, though it was unclear how he got injured, Meredith said.

Wonder how that happened? On a Hobie, a broken crank arm could cause something similar, but it's hard to picture on a paddle kayak. Regardless, I hope he's OK...

I had a dream that a crank arm broke and impaled my leg. I sure hope this guy is okay.

I'm going to guess he accidentally stabbed himself with a knife.

I hope everybody is safe.

We were fishing on a pb outside Bodega Head when we heard the mayday on the vhf and then intermittent parts of communications between a yakker at Ft Ross and presumably other boaters who were closer to the area.  But all this was on channel __, not on 16.  I'm not sure exactly which channel because my skipper today was switching around.

Anyway, remember to use channel 16 for emergency hailing.  The US Coast Guard has the equipment to hear from and to broadcast to VHF a loooong way.
