Bryce Adams, a 19-year-old former state champion wrestler at Colony High, died in the early hours on Friday when his canoe tipped over in Finger Lake.
According to Alaska State Trooper reports, at approximately 1:49 a.m. on Friday, they received report of a male screaming for help on one of the islands on Finger Lake.
When Troopers responded they found a canoe carrying two males had capsized in the lake. One of the two had made it to the island but the other could not be found.
Quickly, Troopers began searching the lake along with the Mat-Su Borough EMS but to no success.
Troopers state that at 6:18 a.m., Adams’ body was found. Next of kin was on scene, police said.
Police say the investigation is continuing, and that “it appears neither boater was wearing a life jacket and alcohol does appear to be a factor.”
