Officials were once again on the Sangamon River in Riverside Park Tuesday searching for any sign of missing kayaker Shane Shomidie.

Three boats were on the river using what is known as side scan sonar to be able to see what is in the river.

Because of what the sonar picked up, dogs were taken out in boats but nothing was found as a result.

Something Shomidie’s father Mickey said is tearing both him and his ex-wife Della Thomas apart.

“I hope this is not the case, but who knows, we may not ever find him,” Mickey said. “It’s just tearing me apart and I know it’s tearing her apart.”

NewsChannel 20 spoke with the Springfield Fire Department and they said there are no new updates to the case at this time. However, they will continue to search for Shane to help bring closure for the family and for Shane’s children.

“[Shane’s daughter has] been asking where daddy is and wants to see him but she doesn’t really understand what we’re doing out here because she’s only three. His babies and his other daughter needs him so bad,” Shane’s Mother Della Thomas said.

There will be a prayer and balloon release for Shane’s birthday Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Riverside Boat launch.

Shane went missing Saturday night.

His family tells us he is a dedicated father and MMA fighter.

We’ll bring you more information on this developing story as it becomes available.
