Get a few beers or a glass of wine because this is a whole seminar. Straight from the Shark professor at Cal State Long Beach.

Expect to see more of them..... :-\

Fascinating!  A very enjoyable listen.  Thanks for sharing.  This supports the kinds of things I have been saying for a long time and it's satisfying to hear the same things from an expert.

Interesting talk. Same thing here....less fishing....more seals...more sharks.

Thanks for sharing that. It was most interesting. I hope that the research can continue and that maybe someday we will find a way to be able to safely share the same water without the fear factor. I am not afraid to dive with sharks around,  but doing anything on the surface I feel like a sitting duck.

Except that we really don't look much like food. Good thing that. If I were prone surfing a shortboard on the Oregon Coast I might feel differently. They are kind of nervous. Several years ago I paddled near one at Indian Beach who was sitting sideways. blocking the best takeoff spot. He said "get your fucking kook board out of here, kook." I said, "okay, but I paddled over to tell you about the two great whites I see over there. Have a nice day." He was gone a few minutes later. What a guppy--he believed me.

LOL.....I always feel safer on the Cape if there are shortboarders around. Safer still if the chubby sponger guy with the red and black boogie, red and black shorty suit, and red and black fins is splashing and looking like a wounded seal. I try and stay a good distance from him though....guy could start a feeding frenzy all on his own....reminds me of a red and black broken back rapala.... ;D

cool vid--might be some sense to the concept--after all many pet dogs could easily rip their owners, or most humans, for that matter, to shreds

It's similar to the relationship between sharks and pilot fish, a mutualistic relationship.  Me, I'm paddling in the other direction...

OK, that's cool and all...but imagine the guy's very first time when he said, "Hey, I wonder if I can pet one of these sharks like I do my Labradoodle?", and then went out, and actually tried it. Must have a custom made wetsuit to fit his pelotas in it.  :)

How many divers get bit by sharks? [my diver friends say none]

Very different story being all cuddly on the ocean floor from bozo's flailing about on the surface [looking like shark bait].

How many divers get bit by sharks? [my diver friends say none]

Think we know it's clearly not "none" but seems to be a small amount.  SCUBA divers made up 2% of unprovoked attacks in 2017 according to this https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/shark-attacks/yearly-worldwide-summary/

Victim Activity at Time of Attack
Surfing/board-sports          59%
Swimming/wading          22%
Snorkeling/free-diving   9%
Body surfing/horseplay   3%
SCUBA                           2%
Other shallow water activities  5%

And the fatality in Costa Rica last year was on a diver - NY private equity manager

given the tiny number of scuba divers relative to surfers swimmers etc, seems safe to say divers get their fair share of attacks
