Cut gas line on bus was no accident, police say

Delta police are reporting $300 damage to a private company’s vehicle among the files in this week's crime beat.

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in-progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

• Feb. 16, 2:06 p.m., 5200-block of 11th Avenue: Complainant reported their unlocked vehicle parked in the driveway was entered overnight. Items stolen include a passport and Nexus card, several pairs of glasses, DVDs, keys and a garage door opener. The locks of the residence have been changed and the garage door disabled.

• Feb. 16, 11:32 a.m., 1100-block of 51A Street: Complainant reported three tenants had their vehicles rummaged through sometime overnight. All vehicles had been left unlocked. A $50 gas card and $20 USD stolen from one of the vehicles.

• Feb. 16, 10:54 a.m., 4900-block of Chehalis Drive: Report received from complainant that sometime overnight a bicycle was stolen from the back of their residence. The Trek 820 mountain bike was left unlocked and leaning against the back of the house. 

• Feb. 16, 8:18 p.m., 1100-block of 51st Street: Complainant reported their white 2008 Lifan scooter parked in the driveway had been stolen sometime in the afternoon. Information regarding the stolen scooter added to the police computer database.

• Feb. 17, 9:44 p.m., 1100-block of Wilmington Drive: Complainant reported arriving home and finding someone had broken into their home. The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle. The rear sliding door was pried open and various rooms rummaged through. Items valued at $1,470 stolen include a black Brody bicycle, three watches and small change. 

• Feb. 17, 5:48 p.m., 5000-block of Canoe Pass Way: A business in the mall reported a person had concealed shoes in a duffel bag. Police attended and arrested the suspect as they were leaving the store without payment. The suspect was also given an order not to return to the mall.

• Feb. 18, 5 p.m., 5000-block of Canoe Pass Way: A business reported two people had purchased goods with a counterfeit $50 bill. One of the suspects was charged with passing counterfeit money.

Ladner

• Feb. 13, 10:52 a.m., 4500-block of Harvest Drive: A private company bus driver reported the bus had the gas line cut sometime over the past couple of days causing an estimated $300 in damage. Police attended and determined the damage was not accidental. No witnesses or suspects.

• Feb. 13, 10:47 a.m., 6000-block of Crescent Drive: Complainant reported the shed on their property had been broken into sometime over the past couple of months. Police attended and determined the shed had been left unlocked. The complainant indicated a six-foot red, white and blue fiberglass shell had been stolen. Police advised all equipment be stored in the shed and the shed be kept locked.

• Feb. 16, 7:35 p.m., 5100-block of 48th Avenue: The loss prevention officer of a business reported they had observed a person conceal $160 worth of merchandise and then leave the store without payment. The officer held the suspect until police arrived. Police attended and arrested the suspect for theft and advised that charges would be recommended. 

• Feb. 19, 12:18 p.m., 4900-block of Bridge Street: A business reported diesel fuel had been stolen sometime over the weekend from unlocked gas tanks of two of the company trucks parked in the fenced compound. 

• Feb. 19, 3:10 p.m., 7400-block of Vantage Way: Complainant reported the theft of approximately $200 worth of extension cords from an open lot at the back of their business. The suspects also attempted to remove an aluminum piece off the equipment.
