13 Die In Sokoto Canoe Accident

The death of 13 children in Rimawa, Goronyo local government area of Sokoto state, sent cold spine down the nerves of the locals as they gathered to bid farewell to their loved ones.

According to reports, the accident took the lives of the 13 (3 Male and 10 Female) young kids on Tuesday, February 20, when their canoe capsized at Rafin Kana dam while trying to cross a river on a business trip.

The governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal accompanied by the state chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Usmsa Danmadami Isa, on a condolence visit, expressed his sympathy as he asked Allah to forgive the dead and make Aljana Fiduas their final abode.

He also appealed to the parents to take solace in Allah, saying the death was a great loss to the entire state.

The victims of those involved in the tragedy are, Rashida Bawa, Shekara (14yrs), Arziki Salihu, Shekara (6yrs), Rukayya Muh’d, Shekara (14yrs), Hadiza Ibrahim, Shekara (14yrs),Asmau Yusuf, Shekara (15yrs),Saadatu Salisu, Shekara (14yrs),Saratu Ali, Shekara (15yrs), Bashar Salisu, Shekara (9yrs), Maryam Amadu, Shekara (8 yrs),Shamsiyya Muh’d, Shekara (14 yrs), Ubaida Muh’d, Shekara (12yrs), and Mubarak Ibrahim, Shekara (10yrs).

The dead children have been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
