Yesterday at the Nubble corner in York Beach, ME was EPIC..BIG long period swells lined up perfectly and were protected for the most part close to the cliffs.  Caught a couple monsters double overhead and perfect workable face for 200 yards...plenty of waves, sunny  and fun group in the water.  today is windier, a little more blown out and gloomy..I decided to rest my old bones a day

no pics but plenty of photographers there so they will show up eventually

Nice Don. I've been hearing that a few of the more protected spots have been really good.

I've never been there when it's big. How was it getting back out?

hey Badger...yesterday it was a very long period and not that hard to get out if you timed it right.  As long as you paddle out at the very north end of the beach, it wasn't bad.  That being said, I still tried to take the last wave of each set and peak out the back in case I had to kick out early.  The couple times I did get caught inside, it was brutal.  Only happened twice in 3 1/2 hrs  I was lucky.
just checking the cam now at 4:30 and winds seemed to have let up and it still looks big..period is shorter and a lot of surfers struggling to get out.  tempted to go again

Jose has been great for Maine. Wind hasn't been much of a factor, but swells have been big. Pine Point/Prout's Neck area in Scarborough has had head high + waves, super long rides, and an easy paddle out around the shoulder the past 3 nights at low tide.

I took the day to windsurf in RI.   Heavy gusty wind and chop where I was.  10 knots on the inside,  30-40 knots outside, nothing in between.   A few friends scored in a different spot.  Time for the next one.  JP

Well done Jpeter, must have been fun.  The wave sailing here in Maine would have been amazing..perfect wind direction and plenty of surf.
Too bad all my gear is in Florida

Where do you begin? As of this posting I started surfing the Jose swell 11 days ago in RI. Surfed 7 days so far. 3 in RI and 4 here in Jerz. Demanding swell. I chose to ride prone today to keep sharp on it. Plus there were easily 25 out at the point and I didn't feel like maneuvering all day around em. Although I did start to feel some regret not bringing my Blade with. That thing is hi tech/hi performance and it woulda most likely went well in the super clean and perfect surf. The Stewart Redline 9'0" felt smooth all day today (9-22). Tossed in some shots from 9-20 that I scored from my fotog buddy. That trip over the falls was no joy ride. And I lost my board a little later to a snapped 9' leash. Like a 15 min swim in! Luckily I had a backup in car.
Tossing around the idea of heading back to Rhode for Maria. Wife in tow.

Shot for quite a while and used the GoPro for sesh.

One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

Nice waves. Two thing--well, three.

1. Waist leash. Try it, you'll never look back.
2. Major league leash upgrade a la Beasho. I've higraded all my leashes. I won't say I'll never break a leash again, but I doubt that I will.
3. Impact vest. You're clearly competent in the waves you ride, but I'm a believer these days. It's like driving around without a seatbelt. Of course I can do it, but why? Catch one to the sternum and how good you are just won't matter, and you get to the surface quicker. I keep telling myself I'm a decent swimmer, but my shoulders are junk. With even just a little float I know I'm going to get there. I made a waist belt that has five pounds of float. I tried swimming with it around my chest--so cool. No effort to keep my head up.

Some killer photos kids, glad everyone is scoring on the east coast. We are still getting some swell in New Brunswick. Overhead again yesterday. Luckily the wind hasn't been too fierce either.

I'm back at work, but the gang is still scoring in Saint John.

This is from yesterday at a place called Mispec Beach.

Cool you found that pic of Creek, Jr. He's a beast! Was fun looking at this thread again remembering that amazing month of waves!
And I read your tips again, Pono. A leash upgrade is def gonna happen. I never tried a waist leash. Funny, wetstuff sent me a waist leash and it's still in my shed. There's no leash on it though, just the waist fitting. Guess I should scope it out a little better. I kinda wrote it off. Impact vest? That would be interesting, can't hurt that's for sure.
