School is still canceled in Napa County due to the air quality / wildfires, so I am taking my girls to the MB aquarium tomorrow. Of course I threw a few rods in the car!
Any of you Monterey area folks have advice for current surf or pier action? Just would like to get a line wet and maybe find an opportunity for my 5yo and her spin caster.
Thanks all!

Try the coast Guard pier. It's not a real hot spot but it's good place for young kids. Possible rock fish and occasionally a Ling has been caught there. I used to take my granddaughter there until she wanted to go out on the yak lol.

Yeah, coast guard pier is always good for some action. Also, if you're staying in Marina, you can check out Marina State Beach for some possible surf perch action. Perching has been pretty spotty here lately, but you never know. I talked to guy who found a group of them in a random flat section on Tuesday. Just be careful with the little one around the surf line. The surge can be pretty powerful in that area even when the swell is small. Hope you get em!

CG jetty is a good spot for quantity and variety. Don't cast too far--only cast about 15ft out, right into the kelp. Use chunks of frozen squid on a 2/0 octopus hook. Dropper loop or even use a bobber if you're with the kids (less snaggy and more fun visually).
Otherwise, I'd say use a carolina rigged Gulp sandworm between Casa Verde & Marina beach. You should run into some barred surfperch and possibly a striped bass. Unfortunately the swell is going to be big, so be careful...I never wade past my knees while fishing the mid-bay beaches.
Another beach option if the waves are big is fishing Del Monte beach by the wharf. It's always calm there. And safer to play in the water. Throw out a whole squid/herring/sardine and let it soak while you cast lures for perch/stripers on your other rod. I guarantee you'll catch a batray or shark on the bait rod right now.
