Great Wylde video
« on: August 17, 2017, 11:47:16 AM »
Fiona posted a really great video--a love letter to Hood River and downwinding on the Columbia, including some really nice drops on the North Side.
Full screen, HD is a must.

I was so tempted to go over the the Wylde side yesterday, but I had limited time for my run (friends coming) and I always have to circle back and do another pass or ten. Adds an hour to my time, and I'm always dodging windsurfers who are NOT amused. So I stuck to the wells express  and had a near collision with a kitesurfer. Near as in: We both bailed.

Great video if a great place, and it shows one hundredth of what makes Hood River so magical.

A superb video. The Hood River looks awesome. And the girls looked and knew they had a great time on the river. BTW, the Billy Joel song really set the mood for this video.

Thanks for sharing it.

Fantastic.

I'm going to use this as motivation for the aspiring SUP'r/surfer I have on staff.

My daughter Ruby, age 14, is bizarrely humble.  This photo was her second day in bigger surf on a SUP.  I said "Ruby go for it!  Dig-dig-dig" and she actually Did Go For It  :o

She still doesn't call herself a surfer.  When the hurricane swell showed up in New England this week she asked "How big will it be?"  I said "Probably 5 to 8 feet"  She responded "OK as long as its smaller than 12 feet I'll be comfortable."

It's awesome when things start to click for the kids.

Oh, ouch. That video was truly awesome. But it makes me really homesick. I didn't even know I could miss the place that much. Wow. Next year for sure, I have to make it back there for a visit. Hope the lump in my throat goes away pretty soon.

Superb video.

Those DW conditions look a handful on a race board (i.e. as contrasted with a dedicated DW board).

And you know very well that it's just a tiny sample. Like Fiona said in her text, we wake up every morning feeling like we're living in a dream. Maui's that way too, just not quite as intense.

A10--its gets quite a bit crazier than that. Raceboards work for the handful of people that can get the most out of them, but mostly it's downwind boards. The SIC 14 Bullet V2's are as common as bellybuttons here though the new Naish Malikos are making inroads.

Speaking of Naish, anyone know what Robby did to his leg? I haven't talked to him yet.

I talked to McRae, Fiona's dad. I assumed that he did most of the shooting and editing--a capable and artistic guy. He said he didn't touch it, that Jarko helped with some drone shots, but Fiona created the theme and built the video herself. Astonishing. To me, it has a deftness that pro videographers would admire, as would old marketing hacks like me. When I expressed my amazement he said "that's just how she is, how she does things."

Wow.

Really enjoyable video to watch and I'd like to add that Big Winds and their "Jet Team" youth training program should get a big shout out for the development of such talent. Stars are being born out of this awesome program.
Well done!!
