Sorry about the break, and my empathy is born from having all my worst injuries happen in ankle deep water... like everyone else in this thread.  Sounds like your in "good"...or at least "consistent" company.

Yesterday, I surfed the morning, and after some midafternoon yard work I came back out and surfed a quick second session.  I rode that last wave all the way in, hopping off in knee deep water.  My right foot folded-in and popped as it sank into the soft sand.  Made me want to hurl.

Doc says, hairline fracture and high ankle sprain.  When will I learn...

Oh man, that sucks. Accidents are never clever. Usually far from it. Ever notice that?

Not that it's any comfort but you aren't alone. I tweaked my ankle badly a few weeks ago in an even stupider way. Far too embarrassing to tell.

Geez, sorry to hear about the ankle compadre.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Advice from Gerry Lopez - Wait for the good ones and kick out early!

The injuries we get from riding into really shallow water no fun at all.

I was demoing some boards in May of this year and jumped off one of the boards in shallow water. I landed on a rock and bruised the heel on my left foot. I can still feel it, some three months later. Luckily my injury was not as bad as yours. Mine was sore and an annoyance but it didn’t keep me off the water. Shows how easy it is to do though.

Hope you recover quickly and are back on the water soon.

I stabbed myself in the middle finger with an ultra-sharp fillet knife last night--right to the bone. I was putting away leftovers and banged the closer on a stubborn lid with my hand, not realizing the knife was laying next to it. Blood everywhere, or as Diane calls it: Wednesday night.

For a guy who does so many hazardous sports and uses so many dangerous tools, I am remarkably clumsy. One more reason I'm amazed I've made it to 70.

Not the kind of knife you want to slam your finger onto:
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

And be careful when emptying out the dish washer, had a blade tip like that go up under my finger nail.  :o
It takes a quiver to do that.

Thanks for asking Zoo, just about fully healed. But not getting as much surf/paddling as I like.  Surfing virtually every morning was a great habit that I need to re-establish.

I have nice knives--bit of a freak about them. I sharpen them with an EdgePro, which takes them way past the "a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp knife" aphorism. Wickedly sharp.

I've recently tried some 8" paper wheels, silicone carbide on one for the initial grind, and rouge on the other to polish.  I was surprised to see how cool the blades remained through the process and how true the wheels themselves are.
