Hey all,
Does anyone have experience fishing Lake Nacimiento for white bass specifically? I understand this is the only lake in California with this species and that they can be super abundant and easy to catch at the right time of year (spring and fall?). Other times of year (like now), how easy or hard are they to hook up? I've never caught one and would love to give it a try.

Thanks!

It's been a LONG time since I fished Naci, but I've caught some white bass there. Search around until you see them busting the surface, then toss any small shiny shad imitation. If I recall correctly, I think the best action is back in the narrows.

Hard to beat the spotted bass action at Naci, though. Super fun. I remember some 70+ fish days fishing topwater. Hard to beat that...

Right on. Thanks for the reply. If I'm fishing spotted bass am I likely to catch white bass incidentally or is it more of an either/or situation? Thanks.

not to plug another site, but the guys at central coast kayak fishing (CCKF) hit naci a lot more than most of the guys up here and probably have more recent advice.

From what i've read before, trolling white/yellow roostertails and small diving plugs works well.

Exactly. I'd just troll the banks around the 15ft contour with spinners, small plugs, etc. If you run into a white bass, stop and work the area because there m/b more of them. Spotted bass are so plentiful there, it'd be hard to get skunked. Dropshot finesse worms or 4" senkos will produce too.
