I bought a yak last year and loved the look of the Stratos (gotta be lime green), however the guy at Border Kayaks reckoned that the Perception Expression was a better boat. For me head won over heart and I bought a second hand Carolina - great for lakes and coastal paddling.

I've paddled the Stratos a few times playing along the West Wales coast and tbh it's fantastic, it does everything you ask , great for overnight trips along the coast and if playing in the surf is your thing it's spot on , I've got a Liquid Logic XP10 and this is playful and although the Stratos is bigger it's a match in the play spots

I looked at the Perception Expression looked good but a bit more focused kayak if you know what I mean , the Stratos a bit more of a all rounder , is it the Perception Carolina 14 you have ?

Thanks for the info Sion it looks like the kayak I am going for , it seems to be quite good at most things , and I seen a video of one going down a grade 3 river which kind of put it to the top of the list,, also it looks good in the surf

A P&H Delphin would suit grade 3, surf and rock gardens, and general cruising - and it doesn't have the bath-tub-wide spec of the Stratos. I've almost thunk myself into one several times over the last couple of years. But then what do I know... I bought the wrong canoe, remember? ;)

I have not paddled the Delphin , but have done the stratos. I think it is great. so playful for a seakayak. And realtively light.

I'm hopefully going to pick up a second hand Carolina 14 this evening, I hope bloggs involving a kayak will be permitted. Stratos is a nice boat though, but very expensive to get here in NI. Come to think of it, everything is expensive to get here...

In any case, let us know what you end up getting and put some pics up when you do.

So I went for the Stratos , its early days ,but so far am liking it, turns very very well with the skeg up ,and tracks great with it down and has lots of storage for big trips , not a lot to dislike really ,https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipO ... 5bpBXqVIWT

Spent a happy half hour drooling over a Stratos in Manchester Canoes last week end. Such a good looking boat. Happy paddling Jag!
