FAIRBANKS — A 36-year-old Fairbanks kayaker missing on the Tanana River appears to have reached Nenana on Sunday, but his location remains unknown, said the Alaska State Trooper who is working to find him.
Sean Murphy, who was reported missing Monday, launched a red single-seat kayak Thursday in Fairbanks.
Trooper Tyler Stuart said by email Tuesday that, according to the most reliable witness statement troopers have received, Murphy was in the Tanana River town of Nenana on Sunday.
“He was contacted off the water, in town. Other witnesses put him in Nenana until the evening and indicated he seemed OK,” Stuart said.
There was no sign Murphy was in distress, but he remains unaccounted for since Sunday, Stuart said. Troopers ask anyone with information about Murphy’s location to call 451-5100.
Troopers described Murphy as a white man, 6-foot-1 and weighs about 200 pounds. He has short to medium-length hair and “stubble” facial hair.
