Fishsniffer pose was hardly necessary.

Sigh.

If you look up our report it will give you an idea on the area. Really scenic despite the burn. We didn't do well trolling, but casting gulp minnows or sierra slammer swimbaits worked well. Pretty sure it was April

good luck Alex. I have been meaning to go check it out. I heard about the boat-in camping so waiting for your report on that :)

I also heard that they are draining the lake to fix the valve. I believe that will happen in Aug? Anyways Cherry Lake isn't very high up in elevation so it still gets pretty hot :(

GOD DAMN that's a big rainbow!! :) now I want to go soon lol

Wear some really good running shoes.
Lots of bears last time I was there.

While I was fishing the creek on the upper end.
My friend and I were fly fishing and hole hopping each other when he comes screamin' by. "BEAR RUN!"
You don't ask any questions when that happens. Dropped my rod and jammed.
We got a good way downstream and stopped when the coast was clear. He said he ran into a cub and them mom. Mom made her way in his direction and he bolted.
After we caught our breath we went back, carefully and continued fishing, but much more cautious than before.
They were in camp. They came through ours but only because there must have been some grease scent near the fire pit. Everything else was out away, but you know how it goes, not ALL campers put their stuff away like they should and it brings them in every time.

Man... that place sucked. Don't ever go there. ;)

Fishing was tough, just two small Kokanee and countless pesky bluegill. Other than that, it was an amazing trip. Good times.

Thanks again for the tips!

We showed up on Thursday and mostly had the lake to ourselves. By the weekend there were quite a few day users - a few lake fleas, a few ski boats, and lots of folks lounging at the beach near the boat launch.

We camped on the east side of the lake just past the island. Nice group spot. We checked out the north end, but there was a LOT of floating debris up there and the camp spots didn't look ideal for our group of ~14.

There are lots of places now that MAKE you use a bear canister. I believe it is a ticket-able offence. Luckily you can rent them for fairly cheap, but it sucks if your backpacking; it takes up a lot of space.

I have a bear canister, but they aren't required at Cherry Lake. You're right, though... They are a pain, and not an option if you want cold food and beer.

All our food was secured in tubs and coolers with heavy rocks holding the lids down.

I'm sure it helped that we had 3 large dogs with us...
