Looking at planning a trip somewhere. Would love to hear peoples experiences on places they've SUPed. Cheers
In the last 2 weeks I have paddled in the Arabian Sea, the Persian gulf - and Middle harbour sydney. Can recommend them all ;)
Just got back from this place and it was pretty bloody good.
Hey paul.j,
It definitely looks like an amazing place, i did a little research when you posted the video originally a week or two back.. It's pretty far out of the way, I'm just wondering how you went about getting there?? Obviously you need to get on a boat at some stage?? And how'd you go getting there with boards??
Sorry for the hijack..
You can't beat Bali for it's variety of waves & you get still get uncrowded mellow waves for sup'ing if you put in the effort...You can hire JL boards over at Sanur as I've met heaps of people who have done this...The Stun Gun is perfect for bali waves...
Otherwise i did an awesome trip around the North Island of NZ last year & had great waves...
I'm another for Bali. I've had great SUP surfs at Sanur, Nusa Lembongan, Berewa and Kuta and seen them at and surfed (non SUP) Balian, Kuta reef and Medewi. If you like quiet and cruisy go Sanur, a bit busier but generally way faster Lembongan, Big waves Balian, Long lefts with crowds Medewi, Short but fun with very spread out crowd Berewa or Kuta beach and Big long waves with big crowds Kuta reef. Many other options that others on here would have surfed.
I'd recommend Sri Lanka as well.. Been to the South about 2 weeks ago, in Midigama - Weligama - Mirissa - Matara area.
It's getting a bit late in the season for these places as wind is kicking in but mornings are glassy and there are a few sheltered spots around. Goob vibes in the water and nice mellow waves!
Went to PNG about 6 years ago. Brilliant because there are so few people on the waves which makes it very SUP friendly with a good range of waves ranging from gentle to very heavy. Now there is only one boat there the price seems to have gone astronomical though. Port Moresby airport not a barrel of laughs either. Port Moresby itself even less so. Once you get out of that craphole you'll find everyone extremely friendly and welcoming though. The local kids there can competently ride waves on half a broken surfboard and can also balance on your paddleboard better than you can even though they've never seen one before. Ridiculous.

must be a bit scary.....even visiting PNG.....but the "get out of town" message is probably good advice :)
