Two days ago I was paddling out in some mild waves and it got splashed. It didn't get submerged. Yesterday when I hooked it up again, I noticed after pushing the power button that there was water inside the screen, and it only showed two big white lines across the screen.

Anyone have any recommendations for what to do with it? I put it in a ziplock bag overnight with desiccant but it still has water inside of the screen.

Does anyone know how to take it apart?

Thanks so much for any ideas.

Keep it in the bag for a few days, not sure if you can open the case or not, but if you can do it it might help. The lines make me wonder if the damage is already done.

You'd think it should handle a splashing- not like it got submerged.
if it swims, fish it.

Try submerging it in rice for a couple of days. Typically electronics will come back to life when it is completely dried out, unless it is salt water that can corrodes. My bigger worry would be how the water got under the screen, because it will happen again.

Call Lowrance.  The bag of rice trick rarely works with electronics, and if it's wet when you turn it on, it's almost always toast.

Lowrance is great to work with if you call them.

You really have to take it apart. Use paper towel to pad dry it.
Check every connector inside to make sure it's free of corrosion.
It's a long process.

How do you take it apart? I took the two nuts off on the connectors but I don't see any screws or anything. There are two little holes but they don't look like they have screw heads inside.

Do this!  If you mess around with it, you'll void the warranty, and you're going to have a worthless brick in your hands.

I had an Elite-4 HDI act up, sent it in to Lowrance, and a week later had a brand new HOOK-4.

Well, I talked to Lowrance. Since I am one month past the end of the warranty, they offered to give me an "upgrade" to a Hook 4 w/GPS (mine had GPS) for "half price": $150 including tax. It looks like they are about $200 from a few places like Cabelas.

I went ahead and did it since I don't think I will get a better price and my kayak is already wired for a Lowrance FF.

I have to say, I am extremely disappointed with Lowrance. I treated my FF very well by drying it out after every use. If Hobie is going to sell their kayaks Lowrance ready, the Lowrance fish finders should be more durable and waterproof, not water resistance. With waterproofing technology nowadays iI don't get why they put shitty little rubber gaskets on an expensive eletronic that is meant to be used around water.

I'm guessing they're just hoping you'll break it. If this next fish finder breaks, I am definitely done with Lowrance.

I did notice that every low rance ff that I have owned would get some moisture under the screen. This would go away after an hour of turning it on. The ff works but I would think Lowrance would have fixed this problem by now. Other than that the ff I've owned have been pretty good.

That's crappy customer service and not what I expected to hear after urging you to call in.  I'd be pissed, too.

The most likely point for water to enter is the door to the memory card slot.  Some folks seal that with GOOP.  I check that it's properly closed and sealed just before mounting it.

If the water entered through an improperly closed SD card door, what should Lowrance do? Free replacement FF, probably not. Bad design? I think so too. If the rubber seal is failing we are going to see a lot of this going forward and Lowrance will lose a lot of kayak customers. I can't seal mine with goop because I want to have the ability to use it.
