Maybe a softer rod with braid? High-Stick City?

Interesting to read about the use of braid and low-stretch lines for steelhead.  Do you guys notice any decline in hookup-to-landing ratio when compared to using straight mono?  I actually prefer the stretch mono provides, as I feel it provides a little forgiveness in keeping a barbless hook in a steelhead's mouth if he decides to run straight at you and cause slack in the line.  But I haven't used braid or low-stretch lines for steelhead before, so I can't say for sure whether my theory holds water.
I tried braid fir drift fishing years ago and had a terrible hookup-to- landing ratio. No stretch equaled no landings. Back to mono. No problems.

i personally only use braid. I just don't like the stretch of mono. But it's harder on the fish for release especially when a steelhead rolls and cuts itself but a good 4+ ft of leader helps.

Thanks for the article Vick I fish like that a lot works well. The biggest problem is the crowds as it  ties up the hole. That's why I fish areas with no people. Nothing more exciting when a Steelie tries to rip the rod right out of your hand, they crush the lures I have had them break plugs. It can get expensive.
I see you have a side plainer in your tackle box :smt003
