With more rain on the way and flooding throughout the region I am wondering who here has been affected or in danger of being affected? I saw on the news all the evacuations, levees breaking, reservoirs overflowing, creeks overflowing. I would like to help anyone in my area if they need it. Don't think there's a thread on this yet? If so I apologize for the duplication.

Very kind offer Steph.
I am fortunate to have property that drains out back to the creek and am far enough and high enough for the house not to be affected.
A couple of times the creek has exceeded it's limits and I get a pond in the pack yard, but as soon as it recedes the pond drains with it.
My biggest concern is the huge oak, the big cedar and big ponderosa pine and big digger pine surrounding my house.
I figure the oak has been around for probably close to 200 years and has seen the best and worst of things during that period so worrying won't do me any good.
During the good weather I prepared the property so the house won't flood as I am the lowest in the hood.
Yesterdays rain:

Damm Tote,,,   get ready for some white water runs.

I'm way above the low water flooding that Aptos got hit with.   But in twenty years never seen anything like this here on my hill.    Seen 6 trees come down in just a little over a week.  Each time the power lines go with it.  Road closed  again for past two days, only way in or out is to walk it...   Getting my excercise.

4 trees down on my street so far.

A 35' city tree in front of my neighbors house just missed my Silverado and would've crushed my van if I was home. Got lucky with that one  :smt001

You can see my truck through the branches and my palm trees looking like they were in a hurricane.

Fence down too. Oh well a lot of people have it a lot worse.

Our ground is soaked and I did find a spot in my driveway bubbling up and thought a water pipe broke.  It kept bubbling up water after the well was turned off so now think either a sink hole is being born, the leach filed is full and it needs somewhere to go, or it's going to start bubbling oil soon and we can move to Beverly Hills.  There is another spot in my yard that has excess standing water and I have been pumping it to the back of the property so it can run off into the woods.

But like Tote said.  I am really worried about the trees. We already had a handful fall and the shallow rooted ones won't take much wind to help them along.  A lady in Ukiah recently died when a large tree fell on her house so there is reason to be concerned.

Hwy 20 into ft bragg has had a bunch of trees fall and numerous mud slides.  There are so many now that the construction crews are just leaving their equipment until the next call out.

Due to rain/mudslides/fallen trees/bank robber/etc., it seems like highway 17 has been closed more than it's been open. I've been stranded in the hills and in the valley multiple times. At the moment, we're going on 48 hours without PG&E, but I've got a standby generator that is performing awesomely (as usual), so no problem with that.

I've been lucky here in Lodi that the fields only have standing water. We will be late getting the spring crop in and the soil is now compacted. We are the higher plot so there was probably a lot of nitrogen run off going to the vineyard next to us. We'll probably need to drop nitrogen this summer to ensure a good stand of corn.

At the mother in laws in Cameron Park, her place is the downhill drainage for the entire court. I fixed an underground drain there last fall and dug a drainage ditch to the roadside creek behind the house. Lucky the creek behind the house hasn't been a problem but it did get up the fence line in last week's storm.

Other than that, just waiting to collect some firewood.

With all the rain and wind we have been getting since October, the Shelter Cove road has taken a major toll. We've had many mud slides, trees down, and a few wash outs that has caused difficulty getting in or out. The latest was the wash out below Huckleberry Hill where the have installed a temporary bridge.
Many people thought the road was "treacherous" coming to the cove before .... Let's just say the the journey to GS in 2017 will be a new experience if major work is not done by then.
As of now, plan on 3 stop signs and one lane stretches as well as a stoplight on top of the hundreds of pot holes during your journey from Garberville to Shelter Cove.

50 million dollars in damage just to the roads in Humboldt.  There's lots of places that you can't get to from there like you used to and the detours are loooong.  Like Eric says, the roads could well be an adventure you were'nt expecting come GS time.  Downriver Trinity County area has had a blockage for months on 299 so you can't get to redding without a long detour and that doesn't look to get resolved for another couple months.

Me personally, just a few shingles lost in a wind event.  I think you guys have had it a bit rougher down south, we are used to dealing with the inconvenience that comes with a bit of rain.

Spent the night at a friend's house filling and stacking sandbags.  Narrowly escaped disaster as the Coyote Creek just touched a corner of his house before receding.  Thanks to Jeff Engleton for randomly stopping by with sandbags and lending a hand.  And everyone else that rallied.  We won this round!

Not so much rougher... Probably more ill prepared. We of course don't normally experience floods and high wind to this extreme. With the saturation of the ground from repeated storms did produce a lot of tree's toppling which caused a high amount power outages . Really out of the ordinary to have freeways flood in the santa clara valley area as well. Luckily I don't commute to that area. To see the Anderson Dam spill way over flowing was amazing but im sure not for the people located down stream. Looked like a small creek levee failed that contributed to the flooding on highway 101.

I have had to deal with ( last month ) a tree falling and ruining about 60 ft of fence. My neighbors tree. Still dealing with that. With the latest round of winds and rain I had to add support to a privacy fence in the front of my home. With a combination of saturated ground and high winds, it is now unstable and propped up with supports. A spare shed I built in my back yard which had a poor secured plastic siding blew into the neighbors yard. Had some high winds last year that did not effect it. This last round of wind gusts were like never experienced before. Got some fixin to do.

Was just thinking about Shelter Cove and that road. Thanks for the update Eric.

What about the cove itself. How are Lower and Upper Pacific fairing?

Is there a lot of run off from the mountains into the residential area?
