This video was taken by Brenda Ransom from Sault Ste. Marie during the

sled dog race.

The race started Friday evening in Marquette, from there on the mushers headed toward Wetmore for a mandatory layover. After that they went to Grand Marais for their next layover. Next they headed back to Wetmore to finish the race in Marquette.

Because of the warm temperatures, the race trail wasn't up to the task and race officials made the call to end the race 15 miles west of Marquette at a location known as Lakenenland.

Tom Lakenen opened up his property to he race, and the spectators. The property is close to the snowmobile trail where the race usually passes by, so it was easy to finish the race there.

Lakenenland has metal sculptures, art, a pavillion, outhouses, and a snowmobile/hiking trail. There was a spot near the trail with a fire pit, logs for stools, and a make shift kitchen where free hot coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts were available.

Lakenen was pulling a canoe around with his snowmobile to give rides to spectators. Local state troopers Josh Nasser, and Randy Rovelsky stopped by the race to watch a musher or two arrive.

One of the race officials asked the troopers if they would do a canoe ride if they collected $100 to give to Lakenen. Officials quickly raised $305, and the troopers kept their word and took a ride in the canoe.
