The body of a man who drowned Friday night while trying to canoe to his residence near the Sacramento River, was located Sunday afternoon.

Tehama County sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Jellys Ferry Road at Saron Fruit Colony Road at 11:39 p.m. Friday after voices were heard yelling for help.

A man and a woman who had overturned in a canoe were rescued about 3:30 a.m. Saturday but a second man was not found.

The three had been trying to return to a home east of the Sacramento River that was surrounded by water but not flooded, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Searchers returned to the area Saturday and Sunday. The body of Michael Keaohou Lujan, 35, of Red Bluff, was discovered about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

An autopsy Tuesday determined he had drowned.
