360 Light

Post by krfish »

I'm looking at ordering the Visicarbon Pro from Yak Attack. I know it's a good light, but the price is pretty steep. Is there a better option out there? Thanks

Have the same light, bought it cheap off a guy on this board last year. cant make myself pay full price for that tiny flashlight on a stick, ha ha. I like the light but honestly I was a bit disappointed in the brightness of it with the 2 LED lamp it came with. There is a 4 LED lamp available online and at ACK. I will get one of the 4 LED lamps and replace the original 2 lamp and hopefully that satisfies me. I like the collapsability, like the float, and the flag (you can customize it with one of your own liking easy enough) if you dont like the orange triangle. Like the fact that it runs on 2 AA batteries, those are easy enough to carry. And it will run them down after about 8-10 hours. I think the literature says closer to 20 hrs of use but I never got that, depends on batteries and temperature I believe. I did not find an alternative at a better price point that was as useful. I would scour the web and see if you can pick one up used for cheaper than they go for new. Like I said, if I had not found a TKF member about 5 minutes from my house looking to sell his for half price I would not have one today. Good luck, in your search. I do like the light but at almost $100 bucks new, there are more things I needed that kind of money for.

The YatAttack setups utilize the Tektite Mark III - 2 LED. A little cheaper to buy the light from Tektite and slide into a PVC pipe pole. I've been using the Tektite Mark III light since 2006 and my original light is still working. I highly recommend them; relatively inexpensive, long lasting (except batteries of course), and I think they are plenty bright enough. If you want one even brighter they make a Mark III 4 LED version. On thing I did a few years ago was change out the clear cone for a White Cone and have been pleased with the results.

I hear ya. There's plenty of stuff I'd rather spend $100 bucks on!

I use an Attwood portable navigation light kit from Walmart. Easy to use - Simply place the 360 light on the rod provided and then stick the rod inside a piece of PVC and fastened it with a nut and bolt. Have used it for almost 2 years now and usually get 2 night trips out of a set of batteries (runs on 3 AAA batteries). And it is bright. Most Walmarts carry it - around $30 with tax.

Note: The red/green navigation light comes with it but is not required by law for a yak. I use it instead for lighting up the inside of my yak when I don't want to use my headlight (the red/green light does attract bugs).

Hope this helps!
