Aren't they going to have a total eclipse of the sun there this year?

Wow, I just looked that up.  It's actually a bit south of Hood River if you want to see total eclipse.  August 21st:

The path you need to be in to experience the total eclipse is really narrow, so being in the path is a big deal.

Could be the sight of a lifetime, and I find out about it from a guy from Australia on a standup forum in a discussion of a downwind race. ;D

I signed up as soon as they opened registration. Beer and Downwinding. It's the standard Hood River Biathalon. Of course, we generally end any late afternoon at the Sand Bar Cafe. It's a temporary cafe on the Steamer Dock right at the end of the run. Multiple local brews on tap and some decent food.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Was on the fence about going up for this and finally said screw it and signed up before it got full.  Now I get an email that Big Winds is offering foil sessions behind a boat with Dave Kalama and Alex Aguera...for FREE!

A week of downwind shuttles, beer, foil session with DK and AA, and beer.  Oh yeah, and a race in there somewhere.

People are already booking the hotels in Hood River to go see the eclipse. If you plan to stay here, book early.

And yeah, I'm doing the boat/foil thing. One more chance for Dave to laugh at me.

Signed up for the foil lesson 10am on the July 20th.  Said it's just 2 people at a time for an hour time slot - should be pretty fun.

Eclipse is after the Gorge Paddle Challenge in August.  But yeah, I imagine hotels are jammed up and the roads are going to be insane the couple days around it.

Huh, TJ didn't say anything about specific times, but I got pinged by Dave saying he saw I was signed up, so I'm sure I'm in.
