Right on!  Cool video, looks really fun.  That board looks tiny I was expecting to see him paddling underwater, and yet it looks to float him well.  Impressed.
Aloha, I welcome and appreciate all responses of positivity and good feeling.

Yes please!
One could go into a mall in Kansas and ask a teenager "What is a surfer looking for?, and the answer will always be, "The perfect wave"

With a short board like that, I think dynamic lift is created when the board is moving forward so this is what I think makes it seem the board floats him well. I would guess if he was just standing still on the board without any type of forward movement with no lift, he might be submerging the rails in the water deeply making paddling not so enjoyable if he was paddling on flat water.

If you watch enough short board videos you'll see some guys sink up to their knees when they stop paddling. It's amazing that they can go anywhere on such low volume, but they do.

Few people, perhaps Colas elsewhere, show the paddle out and/or period before takeoff.  Same wave, again, again, from drop-to-mush misses a whole lot of interesting action.

Hands up who have the skills to paddle and mount a 6.10 x 26.5, volume unknown board. I suspect he used this well developed skill before the nice slides.

That board is 83 L.  He about 185 lbs.  He says that when he stands still on it and the board is horizontal, he sinks it to his knees.  He's really good at keeping his nose up and paddling hard up to plane. I really find his T-stance as he goes for waves interesting.
