Doing some research on knives and came across opinel.  They have been making them since 1880, they float, carbon or stainless, what's not to like?  Under $20.

Surprised they haven't been mentioned here.  I had never heard of them.

Anyone have one?

I had one of the opinel carbon steel outdoor folding knives. I don't like the locking mechanism: you have to remember to engage it and if you don't you risk slicing your knuckles. Because it is carbon steel the blade sharpens nicely but is prone to rust. The blade was also somewhat fragile and I ended up breaking the tip, probably because I was abusing it. Overall I think they work fine as a knife to carry in your picnic basket but not as a general purpose pocketknife.
Wanted to buy: Stealth ProFisha 575 or 525

Exactly what I was going to say and a little uncomfortable to hold. Although I have the countryside table knifes and love them.

Eric, you might want to look at the mora knives if you haven't already   they're under $20 and get super sharp.  Sorry I missed you this weekend.

I found my dads in his tool chest from when he was a kid and trade off between that an my mini griptillian. Still in pretty good shape and sharp for its age. Not the greatest overall feel and the locking mech. is bare bones but can be forgotten/ easily loosened but for whatever reason I began to really take a liking towards it. Overall hard to beat.

I did not know they float...

funny, my neighbor brought two over for me to check out on T-day, since we were low on steak knives for a 10 person dinner.

They sliced tri-tip nicely. Nice blades and I quite liked the grip feel, but I am more of a one handed, larger blade taste.

I have mora and love it. And they were on sale @amazon recently (maybe still are). During research I saw *some* reviews that they rust, even close to fresh water, but still decided to give them a try, and not disappointed.

They absolutely rust, as all high carbon steel will.  You just keep it sharp and if it's going to sit for awhile put a small layer of oil or Vaseline.  The soft carbon steel also helps you get it super sharp.

They are kind of cool little french picnic Knives. They do rust and as mentioned have a very cheap ring style blade lock.

My mora and opinel knives arrived today.  Initial impressions?  The opinel is a handy design.  I like that it's light and sharp.  The locking mechanism is crude but rock solid.  I could see this as a handy every day carry pocket knife.  It's very ergonomic.  Much more elegant and light than a folding buck.

The mora is all business.  This is the knife I can see breaking down a pig or anything else unlucky enough to be in the way.
