Good morning everybody.  I have been looking for ways to shed some stress for a long time.  Recently have caught the bug for fishing and since I have a kayak I figured this was a natural path to follow.

I live in the Sacramento area and will be making my first kayak fishing adventure at Collins lake in a month. I am hoping to modify my kayak this weekend to make it fishing friendly.

I look forward to meeting some new people at future events and experience what is out there.

Going through this website and seeing all the kayaks I feel as I am showing up at the drag strip with a Yugo. I have a Emotion Spitfire, but I don't have plans yet ocean outings. Will just be heading to some of the local lakes for a while.  I hope this will work for a little while and get me started.

I don't think any one much cares what you paddle, it mostly about a friendly sharing attitude and being safe in this group.  I read a bunch of reviews for the spitfire because it's not rated that high on average and I kinda saw what I expected, most of the one or 2 star reviews were people just citing what you's expect from that kayak, poor tracking due to it's length and one guy was unhappy cause it got a little water below decks.  Ha, it's a kayak, what'd you expect.

In short sound like a solid Yugo and a pretty suitable yak for your purpose at the moment. and one you can keep for small water when you buy your next upgrade (almost inevitable).

My first yak was almost identical and I still have it along with 3 others, nothing compared to some but that's how it goes.

If you're fishing for rockfish, just getting a few hundred yards offshore can be enough. Even a Yugo-like yak can do that.

Just got back from sportsman warehouse, bass pro and home depot.  Time to drill and cut holes to make this thing a fishing machine.

So I had trouble with the scotty rid holder mount.  The pop rivets were not long enough.  I just ordered two of the flush mounts (happy they have same hole pattern since I already drilled holes).

More stuff ordered including a different seat.  Hopefully wife doesn't notice the amount of purchases.

For kayaks the rivets you want are called tri grip. Others will pull out unless you can back them in which case you could use through bolting anyways. Even with flush mounts your still gonna need the tri grip. Any kayak shop will carry them.

They were the tri-grip I used, but I think the scotty base was just a little to thick.  The rivets I had were "yakgear" brand rivets.

Just need to find a milk crate and mount a couple of tube rod holders.

Welcome! Go easy on drillin holes until you get some fishin time in.  Most likely you'll find you want to change it up down the road.  Your fishin style, skill, and gear collection will grow.  Just let it happen and have some fun! :smt006
