Why is that? I'm curious what makes them better. I spent some time online and could not find any reviews or comparisons. Seems like the KP2 tape and helicopter tape may be the same thing, but could not find anything on how it compares to the RSP tape.
Thanks
I'm asking because only one local shop has KP2 tape in stock and nobody stocks RSP locally, so I'll have to order it.

Helicopter tape worked very well for me especially because it came in so many width and length options. Much more bang for the buck than the RSpro.

Never worked with the RSpro so can't speak to that, but with the helicopter tape reapplication of the tape was very easy when needed.
in progress...

Check out JEGS. Thicker than helicopter tape. Different glue doesn't yellow. Not as many widths.

A great low budget solution..

There are several threads on this forum about rail tape.

I think the consensus is that RS Pro is the best but it
is also pretty expensive.

I do have it on my B&B and it looks great and works well.

The positives I'm remembering are:
it is more impact resistant probably because it is thicker.
it can be re-used many times - some people take it from board to board as they sell and buy boards

It will "sand" your paddle's edge.  It has a somewhat rough texture.
Sometimes I hear it "zip" as my paddle edge rubs against it on a hard paddle.
I did get a little bit of road rash from it, once, probably when jumping back up on the board - only once did that happen.

-
At the other extreme, the rest of my B&B's edges are covered with very cheap, clear duct tape (from Orchard Supply)
(that has some little strands of fiber glass going through it - which feel itchy sometimes).  It was around $7 for probably
a hundred feet or more.  I put it on the bow and the stern.  And, I just overlapped the RSP pro on the sides.
In my initial application of the duct tape, I put on two layers.  I'm not sure that it
would protect a lot from paddle strikes (where the RSP pro is and does a great job)
but I wanted some protection on the other ares - especially for loading and unloading
the board - seems to work well, but eventually peels off - and doesn't look so sharp like the RSP does.

Still, I'd be willing to look at other solutions.

I'm just recommending from my personal experience.

I've encountered and have personally used quite a few different rail tape variants and RSPro has never let me down.  Don't think of it as expensive tape, think of it as cheap insurance.

Its on 5 of my boards, why? I've used other brands and types and it has the best grip plus the easiest application and re-application if needed. It also comes in cool designs and graphics and colors which can hide old paddle scuff and chips.

I have RSPRO on all of my boards that need rail tape. I have tried some of the other products with VERY similar names and found that they offered very little protection to the board versus RSPRO. The RSPRO made in Barcelona and available from JimK and North Shore Inc. is the real deal.

If you don't mind ugly black tape with white writing on it, I use PASCO 10 mil PVC tape.  It is bombproof.  It sticks well and stays on.  It's thick.  It comes in 2", 4", and 6" widths.  It's dirt cheap from Home Depot.  It's saved my nose a few times on a shore break.  Did I mention it's ugly?

It's very simple, lots of people recommend other stuff until they try RSPro. And then they don't.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Yeah, that would be my story. RSPro is the only rail tape out there with acceptable durability in my book. The only boards I have with anything else came into my possession with it already on. The only exception would be the new generation of carbon railed boards coming out that I don't think need anything at all.

Avoid Puka Patch rail tape like the plague, terrible Durability, having a way better experience with 3M Helicopter tape. Haven't tried RSP yet.

I don't understand why this keeps coming up other than what my bro said. If you've tried it you know.
