Oh that looks like an awesome product.  I just bought some bungie material from the hardware store where they sell it by the foot.

They're cheap and convenient...can find em on Amazon too sometimes even cheaper and diff lengths etc...

It's obvious divers and anglers have a diff perspective on anchoring up.  :smt002

Even when I used to hook and line fish I liked using the kelp clip (or just wrapping some kelp around my leg like Chad said) to work a kelp bed/pocket and avoid getting swept past it super quick in wind/current...

My PB hook and line 36 inch Ling came like that a few years ago...

This might be getting a bit off topic... but I usually avoid fishing around kelp.
Lines get tangled too much.

But after watching BigJim's video... I'm rethinking my approach.
wow.

And getting back to topic... I guess the general consensus is to not anchor for line fishing.  That sure saved me some trouble.

It's not standard like it is in socal, except when targeting sturgeon. I've only seen a few reports of PBs anchoring and this was in bogeda in the middle of a squid spawn -- and in calm conditions.

Good question.

Clear answer based on your poll and the responses here:  No one anchors for offshore fishing.  Anchoring for diving and holding kelp under your leg while fishing are totally different.

No one anchors for offshore fishing.  I just wanted to repeat it to be sure it's clear.

All that said, I have at least one instance where I would consider anchoring offshore.  At Shelter Cove there's a local commercial salmon fisherman who will anchor out front in about 55' and run mooching setups in the current.  We've had times where we trolled and mooched around him, but we never matched his productivity.  I've thought of anchoring there, but I won't be doing it.  He can run like half a dozen rods.  My one rod mooching it on anchor would feel so inadequate...

That answers that, for me.  No one anchors for offshore fishing.

Best of luck.  :smt001

I have an anchor to take only when I'm diving, as I've been places where there is no kelp at the surface to be found.  I have 2 kelp clips one on each side of my yak that I would rather use.  I don't see the point in taking my anchor when I'm just fishing though.

Use an anchor for diving. Usually I  would tie to kelp for fishing. Now that we don't have the prolific beds, I've been drifting and doing the paddle back to repeat an area.

Nice vid, Jim - well patterned wood shampoo application  :smt005
