Search Underway For Two Canoers at Cedar Creek Lake

Crews searched for two men feared drowned in Cedar Creek Lake in Kaufman County on Saturday.

Game Wardens say three men took a 16-ft. canoe onto the water for a fishing trip.

They launched at about 5:30am. Kaufman County investigators say they received a 911 call at 7:56am.

"The boat started taking on water. They panicked. The boat capsized. There were no life jackets on the boat," said Capt. Tony Norton.

Capt. Norton with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said one man swam back to shore. Two men remain missing.

Crews used sonar equipment to search for the men.

Capt. Norton said wind gusts Saturday made the water dangerous for small craft to navigate.

"You’re fighting mother nature all the way," Norton said.

Family members confirm one missing man is 25-year-old Onesimo Cabriales of Dallas.

The other is a 19-year-old from Dallas.

Game Wardens suspended the search at sunset on Saturday, they'll resume searching on Sunday morning.

Capt. Norton said dive teams are on standby.
