Wish I could afford a dry suit but my cheap a$$ is gonna tough it for a bit with my farmer John n paddle jacket. Ok keep em coming. So is the zip up the way to go? 3mm or 5mm?

2 sizes too large Walmart Sandals.
A lot of guys get cold feet because their footwear is too tight.
Not only does it cut off circulation, but it compresses the layers surrounding your feet making what little insulation you have virtually worthless.
I wear 2 pairs of socks; one regular pair and the kind you get at the Dr office before you go into surgery. One size fits all and they are the perfect over sock.
Because I am not compressing the layers, my feet stay toasty warm and I dangle my feet in the water a lot.
Not a bad gig for around $10.

For tough portages, like Mill Creek, Limekiln, or Elk, I wear my running shoes over bear feet.  Adidas Boston Marathon III, or Fila Skeletoes.  The tread is useful over the rocks and I take them off and drain of sand when OTW.

I have neoprene diving boots, but can't stand them.  It feels like marinating the foot in seawater.  The above footwear drains much easier, more comfort.

Camaro dive boots with zip, thick neoprene socks, sock liners, Sole insoles.  I have skinny flat feet, and wear size 13 shoes (I'd buy 12 1/2's if they made any.) so I can get all that stuff into size 48 booties.  What you wear above the footwear makes a lot of difference on whether your feet are cold - that and the amount of natural "padding" your birthday suit has. I wear a wetsuit with a lot of fleece underneath, and splash pants and jacket on top.
I had some NRS lace up "Workboots" that gave great traction over rough terrain, but were cold and a bitch to get on in a hurry.

I've been partial to the NRS ATB water boot. Same sole as the "workboot" but with a neoprene dive boot type upper. I'm on my second pair in 8 years.

I was using my NRS booties quite a bit but I've grown to really like my Astral shoes for kayaking, hiking, and daily use

I was big fan of the Aqua Lungs until I tried one of these.  Way more comfortable!  http://www.nrs.com/product/30034.03/nrs-mens-paddle-wetshoe

I have $10 walmart water shoes, and $12 wool quickdry socks.  Works for me, my feet do get wet.  Didnt go with boots because these are much more comfortable,  and boots hold water.

Not the best pic, but its the only one i can find with the most detail

+1 Those are the same that I use. I like how they're wide to accommodate your feet and the extra layers

I just wear the non insulated waders with paddle jacket over. And if I need to walk a lot I throw on tennis shoes on the wafer socks... But it's really comfortable w/o shoes
