Tahoe Downwinder - Video
« on: July 25, 2016, 04:45:25 PM »
Surfing in a beautiful mountain lake, I have wanted to do this for a while and capture it on video.

Last year the wind was strong enough to see if it was possible to downwind in Tahoe.  I searched the shoreline of Lake Tahoe for a convenient launch spot , looking for a one person car/bike shuttle, and I have yet to find the right spot.  The wind window was closing and there was lightning forecast soon so I abandoned the search and went to Donner Lake.

Donner Lake is long and narrow, the wind blows down the long way, with a road around the shore making for an easy launch and bike back.  Had a blast on this run last year and I have been looking forward to trying it again this year with a friend, my favorite board, and the pole camera mount.

The wind was forecast to be in the high teens with gusts in the high twenties the second day of our trip and clear blue sunny skies, perfect!  Last year the wind was steady in the low twenties and I was really curious how it would be this trip.

We had a great time, I enjoyed introducing downwinding to a friend (his first words at the end of the run were,"man that is so addicting!") and it was fun to have the kiddos welcoming us as we surfed into the beach.
