MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. – The Morgan County Coroner’s Office has identified a deceased kayaker as 17-year-old Alonda Taylor Veniszee.

Search and rescue crews say they recovered Veniszee’s body at about 7:10 a.m. Thursday during a resumed search for the teenager. Her body was located about 150 yards to the west of Bluff City Landing; about 250 yards from where she went missing. Her kayak was recovered Tuesday night after the initial 911 call came in around 6:15 p.m.

alondaVeniszee went missing Tuesday night while with friends, according to Alabama State Troopers. The girl was with a group of people who were kayaking on the river near Bluff City Road when her kayak overturned.

The Morgan County Rescue Squad is being credited with finding the teen’s body. It’ll now be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for autopsy. The autopsy should be completed tomorrow.
