Ya know, I keep up on the routine maintenance on my truck, IE changing the oil every 7500, fuel filter every 15k, rotate the tires religiously every 5000 miles, so when I smell then see smoke billowing out from the left rear tire, my shorts get new stains! :smt009
Was heading back to 17 on Stevens Creek Blvd, about 4 blocks from the onramp and sniffer starts detecting that unmistakable stench of HOT brakes.... then mirror confirmed...  SMOKE and lots of it billowing out the wheel well (Yikes)
I pull over, jump out and thankfully no flames seen!
GD caliper has to be sticking!
3 hrs later tow shows up to the 76 station I made it to, (Flat bed operator out of Carmel) and eventually drop the truck at shop that did brake work on it back in April 15'
unfortunately the work they did, did not have anything to do with the calipers :smt013
New pad all around, turned all the rotors.
So, now have to shell out more coin for new calipers (Both sides)  The smoking caliper side the pads and rotor are fine.
25 years ago, I would have done the work to change them out my self, I know its a simple job, I simply don't want to deal with it today!

Did they do a full fluid flush?
Did you notice if your reservoir was really full?
Brake fluid can absorb water, I have had a brake lock up because I didn't have enough expansion space. Water expands more than brake fluid.
Did they feel squishy at all?
Could be water in the fluid.
I only fish on days that end with Y

Yes. Part of the work done last Apr. was flushing the brake fluid, and of course refilling.  I did not however inspect the fluid reservoir. (Trusting the shop to do job correctly) No, the brakes did not feel mushy.
The calipers on the back were stock so, they were 14 years old.  The front calipers were changed back in 11' after the passenger side front locked up on me the Saturday before I was driving home 756 miles!
Back when I was immortal, I changed the front calipers on my CJ5 (Hell, rebuilt the front and rear axles myself) but that was pre wife and mortgage.

Funny how many things were before wife and a mortgage. :smt044
When the lakes and rivers are full the trout will walk the earth.

[emoji35]. Well yesterday, truck though it was a good idea to completely devour its selective belt!
Got another belt to install, then noticed the water pump pulley is missing all its bolts! WTF?  Tow arrived about 20:30 hr.  2 tow's in a week. WTH?   Why are pulley bolts missing? Are they there just sheared off?  That's a new water pump is so[emoji35]  will need to contact steelership for new pulley bolts (Metric). Could not determine cause of missing bolts with just tiny flash light (Was dark)
Arrgggg....

Bummer. I am getting the differential replaced on my 04 CRV today. The only good news is that I didn't need a tow...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...
