Hi,

I'm looking for a used kayak that my 9 year old can paddle and maneuver efficiently. Something like an OK Tetra 10/12 or Trident 11. Open to anything, really, if the price is right.

Thanks,
napajustin

I have a WS Tarpon 100 - I'm keeping it - and they are quick, track well, and very stable.  One of those might be a good option for a 9-year old, too.

My son is a small 10 year old. He paddles my tarpon 100 ok on very calm days. In the ocean with any wind he has a rough time. Think a revo 11 would be the ticket.

I got a great deal on a used Emotion Spitfire 9 at HMB Kayak for Quinn this past Christmas.  They had brand new Spitfire 8's for a great price too.

I started fishing with my son on a tandem when he was 9. When he was 11, I got him a Hobie Outback. Its big for him, but stable, and he is growing into it. He is 12 now, and I think that was the right call. A Revo would also be a great call.

Hmm.  My 10 year old Granddaughter has no trouble with the Tarpon 100 in the sea.  Maybe it's technique.  I think a Revo 11 is a great idea, but seems a bit over-the-top for a 9-year old.  Just me, I guess.

I bought my daughter a WS Pamlico 100. It is a sit inside boat.
It's  been perfect. It is very stable and dry. We added rod holders, knee pads, dash board, fish finder/gps and a few other things. The boat looks pretty dam sweet especially having an 8 year old captain. Other nice thing was I didn't break the bank buying it. Also, if she gets tired when we are out, it's super easy to tow her in at trolling speed with both of us having lines out.
The exact same boat is for sale ( minus the upgrades) on Sac Craigslist.

Thanks for all the responses, fellas! I'm going with Naoaki's used boat. Now all three of us have a yak! I guess we are going to need a team name for GS and beyond.
