It was initially designed for adventure racing and other multi-discipline events where competitors need to change quickly from one discipline to another. The Dorado is a specialist kayak designed for fishing, spear-fishing or snorkelling. It is a sit on top configuration to provide freedom of movement and is fitted as standard with all rigging required for fishing. It has a large fish box, load bay accommodating a plastic crate, fishing rod holders and anchor attachment lines. The Dorado's volume provides exceptional load carrying capacity and stability and it is long enough to provide a good turn of speed.

The Kaskazi Dorado II is a significant review of the Dorado: The kayak is 50 mm longer increasing the length of the cockpit to make it more spacious. The foot wells have been widened to accommodate guys with big calves, and the fish box has been extended right up to the bow. The fish box has a capacity of 80L and can accommodate a 2 m rod.

Wayne Kocher shaped her from a V2-Z, moderating the rocker and boosting volume at all critical points by increasing the beam (width) by one inch and raising the gunwales along the cockpits and aft deck. Wayne placed a pair of low set cockpits with high supportive side walls like those found in the newly redesigned 2009 V1-X that he shaped earlier this year. The lower rear cockpit allows a lot more clearance for the rear paddler to reach under the front iako. Wayne placed a water parting ridge along the entire fordeck so pearling is limited to short events.
